2014 Fayette County Wednesday Walks

These walks are sponsored by the Healthy Lifestyles Task Force. These walks are designed to improve the health of Fayette County residents by increasing their level of physical activity. The walks will take place, June 11th, Uniontown: Historic Churches Walk; June 18th, Rich Farms: Farm Walk; June 25th, Treehouse at Summit Inn Walk; July 2nd, Perryopolis: Bicentennial Walk; July 9th, West Overton Museum Walk; July 16th, Ohiopyle-Sproul Trail Hike; July 23rd, Linden Hall: Days of Old Walk; July 30th, Brownsville's Patsy Hillman Park Walk; August 6th, Touchstone Center for the Arts Walk; August 13th, Forbes State Forest Hike; August 20th, Connellsville Railroads: Past, Present & Future Walk; and August 27th, Celebration Picnic. Movies in the Park

The Connellsville Recreation Board has announced the movies and dates for the summertime delight known as Movies in the Park. Here's the tentative schedule: June 13th, "Monsters University," then on June 27th, "The Wizard of Oz,'" followed by on July 11th, "Back to the Future," then on July 25, "Mary Poppins," on August 8th, The Never Ending Story," and ending on August 21st with, "Friday Night Lights" with a pep rally to follow. Follow the Recreation Board on Facebook for any changes and/or additions.

Walk for PKD

The 4th Annual Walk for PKD in Memory of Chuck Bryner will take place at Yough River Park on Saturday, August 2, 2014. Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD) is one of the most common, life-threatening genetic diseases affecting thousands in America and millions worldwide. There is no treatment or cure. The Walk for PKD is the PKD Foundation's largest annual fundraising event and these funds make up one third of their annual budget for research. Join the Walk as a participant, volunteer or donor. This National Event invites you to get out of your house and into your neighborhood; you could plan and sponsor a Block Party in your neighborhood, have a cook out, or sponsor a Flashlight Walk, or a Neighborhood Youth Program. If you would like to do any of these things, contact the Connellsville Crime Watch so they can put you on their list. Let's Make a Deal Connellsville

Everyone remembers the show, Let's Make a Deal that was on TV years ago, Well, this is a new version, one to not only benefit the Edwin S. Porter Theater in the Community Center, but it can also benefit you! Contestants will be chosen based on their costumes (so dress as crazy as you want), as well as by random ticket numbers. Contestants could win a great prize, or get Zonked with a prize, not so great. Organizers of this event are vendors already in the building, like Brooke Deason, owner of Brooke's Block Party. The vendors there will have their items displayed for sale and there will be games at the tables. Advanced tickets are only $10 and can be purchased to Brooke's Block Party; Project Talent Theater Workshop; the Community Center Office and the Thrift Store. Tickets will be $15 at the door the night of August 5, 2014. For more information, contact Lori at the Center at 724-626-0300.

The Chamber of Commerce invites you to join them on August 16, for an outdoor dinner on Crawford Avenue. Tables will be put up from the Pittsburgh Street intersection to the Arch Street intersection, creating one really, really long table to dine on. This event costs $60 per person, but you'll get hors d'oeuvres, salad, steak, fish, sides, dessert, a wine paring, a coffee bar, entertainment and fine company. Come join us as this event will serve as our annual gala.

Mighty Falcon Band to perform at PNC Park at Pirates Baseball Game

On Sunday the Pittsburgh Pirates will be playing the Cincinnati Reds, but the Connellsville High School Marching Band will be playing the National Anthem and the CAHS Chorus will be performing the 7th Inning Stretch at PNC. Tickets for the game are available and, even if you're a Season Ticket Holder, you can still ride down on their bus with them. Connellsville's Annual Mum Festival, sponsored by Downtown Connellsville and the Fayette County Cultural Trust, will be held Saturday, September 6, 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. along Crawford Avenue. Featuring beautiful fall mums for sale. Vendors will include a variety of artisans, crafters and food. This is the last Farmers Market for the season, There will be bountiful local fresh produce and pumpkins, corn stalks and gourds. There is no admission fee. Additional information will be made available later.

Penn State Fayette 5K Paint Run/Walk

It's a Connellsville Christmas

Downtown Connellsville presents It's a Connellsville Christmas. There are so many things going on this weekend. Details are still coming in, but here's some things to look forward to...Artworks, will again have the Children's Creativity Zone to assist children in making a special ornament; The Connellsville Canteen will be open and running, even hosting a Breakfast with Santa! The Skating Rink will be back in the parking lot in front of H & R Block, that will be just as much fun this year as it was last year. Several Churches and the Carnegie Free Library will be holding Christmas Markets, the Porter Theater will have something Christmassy going on too. More information will be added as it comes in.
